Exposure to sun | Place the plant in partial to full shade. Avoid direct exposure to sun. A prolonged period of direct sun exposure will scorch and fade the colour of the leaves. |
Light | The plant required partial to full share. While it can also tolerate low light conditions, place it in well lit rooms with indirect bright light exposures. While the plant does tolerate low light conditions, its growth might slow considerably. Therefore dappled light exposure is the best. Find a place near the window or in a bright light room. |
Soil | Use loamy and a well-drained soil mix. Maintain soil moisture. Do not let the soil to completely dry out. Homalomena plants require moist but not soggy soil. |
Watering | Allow the top inch of the soil to dry before watering. Too frequent watering will lead to root rot and too little of water will lead to discoloration of the leaves. Therefore maintain a regular watering schedule for the Homalomena plants. They are not drought tolerant and will start to droop if left un-watered for a prolonged period. Fertilize the plant once a month with slow release water-soluble fertilizers and vermiculite. |
Pruning | Pinch off the dried or fallen leaves whenever required. |
